Normandie Grands Migrateurs (NGM) is a non-profit organisation created on December 13th, 2014 by Anglers Federations of Low Normandy (Calvados, Manche and Orne).
The organisation aims to contribute to protect and restore migratory fish populations, and to restore aquatic habitats and ecological continuity of the Low Normandy rivers.
This region offers privileged habitats for migratory fish species (Atlantic salmon, Sea trout, Sea lamprey, River lamprey, Allis shad, Twaite shad and Eel). Nevertheless, these fragile populations have to face many threats such as diffuse pollutions, clogging of spawning grounds , dams and weirs, poaching … Moreover, from a regulatory point of view, the objectives assigned by European Community and national texts and plans are translated into very strong expectations for rivers, in terms of hydromorphology and ecological continuity. The preservation and development of these emblematic species, which live in rivers with a good ecological status, are a strong ecological, heritage and economic challenge !
« Migratory fish » organisations represent an essential network between field data production and the scientific community. « Migratory fish » organisations are federated within the National Federation for Angling in France.
